Proverbs 14:12
“There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.”

Sometimes, what feels right in the moment leads to destruction. It may seem right to steal to feed your family. Pride won’t let you go to a food bank or ask for help. However, jail leaves your family in an even worse position. It may seem right to sell drugs for quick money. But the consequences are broken lives, broken minds, and broken families. It may even seem right to live a life based on society’s standards of “good.” Yet, ignoring God’s truth leads to eternal death.

I once shattered a glass pot lid because I acted on what seemed right. I had placed the lid on the stove, not realizing the burner was on. When I panicked and placed the hot lid into cold water, it shattered. The friction caused by the heat and cold destroyed the lid beyond repair.

Many of us live like that—reacting impulsively, thinking we’re doing the right thing, but ending up in destruction. Proverbs warns us that there is more to death than lying unconscious in a box. Hebrews 9:27 reminds us, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” The second death—being cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14-15)—is eternal separation from God.

This judgment isn’t based on society’s standards or being a “good person.” It’s based on whether we have submitted to God’s truth through Jesus Christ. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Take inventory of your life today. Are you walking a path that seems right to you but leads to destruction? Align your life with God’s Word by:

  1. Reading His Word daily (Psalm 119:105).
  2. Repenting of sin (Acts 3:19).
  3. Confessing Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9-10).
  4. Believing He was born of a virgin, died for your sins, and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

Let the Lord guide your path and restore your life. Don’t live by your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6), but trust in Him. Amen.

Proverbs 14:12 – ‘There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.’ A powerful visual representation of the consequences of choosing the wrong path, as illustrated by an African angel before the throne of God.
