Proverbs 6:16-19 (KJV)
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
Reflection:
In this passage, God reveals the behaviors and attitudes He finds most detestable. Each one is not just a sin but a seed of destruction—hurting individuals, dividing communities, and dishonoring God’s holiness. These verses call us to examine our hearts and lives, ensuring that we reflect God’s character in our actions, words, and intentions.
The seven things listed in Proverbs 6 are not only a warning but also a mirror for self-reflection. Are we guilty of pride? Have we spoken lies, caused harm, or spread discord? This passage is a powerful reminder to live with integrity. It encourages us to act with humility and love. We should seek to please God in all we do.
The Seven Things the Lord Hates:
- A proud look (arrogance and haughtiness)
- A lying tongue (dishonesty and deceit)
- Hands that shed innocent blood (acts of violence and harm against the innocent)
- A heart that devises wicked imaginations (planning and plotting evil)
- Feet that be swift in running to mischief (eagerness to engage in wrongdoing)
- A false witness that speaketh lies (giving false testimony or spreading untruths)
- He that soweth discord among brethren (causing division and strife within a community or group)
Call to Action:
Let this scripture guide us to repentance and a commitment to walk in righteousness. Reflect on your own life—are there areas where pride, dishonesty, or divisiveness have taken root? Surrender them to God today. Seek His strength to live humbly, speak truthfully, and pursue peace with those around you. Be the light in a world that desperately needs God’s love and holiness.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your heart through Your Word. We acknowledge that we fall short in many ways, and we ask for Your forgiveness. Search our hearts, Lord, and remove any pride, dishonesty, or strife within us. Help us to live in humility, truth, and love, glorifying You in all we do. Teach us to be peacemakers and reflections of Your holiness in our communities. May our lives draw others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
