Proverbs 18:7

“A fool’s mouth is his ruin,
And his lips are the snare of his soul.”

Reflection

Words have incredible power. A fool’s downfall often begins with the words they speak—reckless, excessive, or ill-informed words can lead to ruin. Over-talking, especially without understanding, can alienate others and even block blessings.

Even those with knowledge must tread carefully. Overcomplicating communication or sounding overly wise can frustrate and push others away, casting them in a “know-it-all” light. Earthly wisdom alone is not enough. We must seek God’s guidance to keep our words purposeful, measured, and uplifting.

Instead of relying on our own understanding, we can pray for God to guard our lips and guide our speech. When we trust Him, He can protect us from speaking too much. He helps us avoid saying the wrong things. He also prevents us from harming others with our words.

Prayer

Lord,
Watch over our lips and protect us from ourselves. Set a guard over our mouths and keep us from over-speaking or saying things that are not pleasing to You. Help us to speak only the words that align with Your will. Teach us to trust You to guide our communication, so we may honor You with every conversation.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
