Proverbs Daily – February 16: Committing Our Works to the Lord

Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)

“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”

Supporting Scripture: Habakkuk 2:2-3 (NIV)

“Then the Lord replied: ‘Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.’”

Reflection:

When we entrust our work to God, He aligns our plans with His divine purpose. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us that success is not simply about our efforts, but about committing our ways to the Lord. Habakkuk 2:2-3 reinforces this by emphasizing patience—when God gives a vision, it may not happen immediately, but it will come to pass at the appointed time.

This truth was evident in the life of Frederick Douglass, one of the most influential leaders of Black history. Born into slavery, he could have remained bound by his circumstances. Instead, he pursued knowledge, freedom, and justice—writing down his vision and making it plain through his powerful speeches and books.

Like the prophecy in Habakkuk, the vision of abolition and equal rights did not happen overnight. Douglass’s mission lingered, but he never lost faith. He committed his works to the Lord, and in due time, God established his path. Today, his legacy continues to inspire millions.

Application to Black History Month:

Throughout Black history, many visionaries followed this biblical principle. Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, and countless others wrote down their dreams and ran with them. Their efforts, once met with resistance, came to pass in God’s timing.

We, too, are called to commit our works to the Lord. Whether it’s in ministry, justice, family, or personal growth, we should write down the vision. Trust in God’s timing and remain faithful. Then, He will establish our steps.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we commit our works to You. Align our thoughts with Your will and give us the patience to trust Your appointed time. Like Frederick Douglass, help us to write the vision, make it plain, and remain steadfast even when the promise tarries. We believe that, in Your perfect timing, it will surely come to pass. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
